The first par 3 in Coolattin is one of the most talked about holes on the course. Known by members as the Garden Hole, the 5th is completely enclosed in the 4 walls of an old Victorian kitchen garden making it one of the more unique holes you’ll ever play.

At under 125 yards, it’s the shortest hole on the course and at index 17 you’d be forgiven for thinking that this is one of the more straight forward holes on the course. This is not the case though – the green is one of the smallest in Coollattin and takes the form of an upturned saucer meaning anything slightly off line will fall away leaving a very difficult chip or bunker shot to a raised green. The green is very well protected by bunkers on the left and right and of course anything too long will be over the wall and out of bounds. Beware of the wind here also, on the tee you’ll be protected by the walls and may not feel the breeze that lurks above.

Hit the green with your tee shot here and you’ll have a great chance for birdie, miss and par will be a real struggle. Proof positive that a par 3 doesn’t need to be long to be a challenge.
